Hello all. First off I decided to try installing Debian...mostly because I already downloaded it. I tried Knoppix as well, but the HD Install isn't so easy...

I spent several hours (yeah, I'm pretty slow x.x) installing Debian 30r2. I had problems with "Neighbour table overflows", Debian not recognising my USB Labtec optimouse and GWM or KWM unable to start a GUI environment (error message was no screens detected or something like that).

After about a dozen reinstalls, I finally got it working :)

The NTO's were caused by network card problems - fixed using manual network settings rather than letting DHCP automatically do the settings.

had. Debian could detect the "PS-2" mouse no problems, but not the USB Labtec one.

The GUI problem I fixed by setting one of the options to "No". Sorry about being vague. Basically the installation program said "In theory both should work fine...but if you have any problems you should select no."

It really doesn't matter. Ignore them. It's just a message. Not related (except that X is a network protocol, so it may help trigger the messages if you...

Hope this helps some guys if you're having similar problems.

Total installation size: ~800MB Total linux parbreastion size: 1855MB Swap space size (2x RAM): 256MB

GWM and KWM in Debian seems to run surprisingly fast...not very noticeably different from my AMD XP 2500+ main comp! Maybe it is because RDRAM is faster than my main comp's DDR400 (downclocked to DDR333 to match the processor FSB) RAM?

About upgrading the RAM, I regretted buying an RDRAM system (think Betamax) because I'd need to buy the much more expensive RDRAM to get the upgrade to work.

As for the HDD, I know 40GB HDDs or so aren't so expensive these days, but being an engineer I am an optimisation freak and it turns out that 160GB HDDs are the cheapest (last I checked) in terms of cost per GB. So if I buy a new HDD, it would be a 160GB one because I unoptimised solutions bug me o.O
