Yes, I knew you'd try that line! Every 3D space has a 2D perspective projection (on the surface...

Come off it man. Since when do you personally have to have seen something to believe that it is real life? You're making a nonsensical objection - the interface makes use of your real-life experience by presenting you with visual cues that allow you to interpret hat you see in terms of your real-life experience.

No it does not. It persents you with pictoral clues, yes. But they have nothing...

Sure you've never seen it before. So?

So? I can't help it if your experience is limited! But anyway you deliberately misunderstand the obvious, so please desist from this line of non-argument - it's annoying. That you haven't precisely seen a particular object before doe not stop you dealing with it - you open a door despite you never having seen THAT door. You have seen doors, and you have seen holes, and stoppers for the holes, and so on. Those things can be represented on the screen in ways that trigger your visual filters to pbutt on the information to your brain in terms of concepts from "real-life".

Doesn't mean to say that having windows curl up and stick themselves in a pigeonhole when you "close" them isn't a good idea. I rather like the idea of things you use less being "further" away. Instead of a menu you could have a sort of wall of cupboards, and you go down the wall to the right section, then open the right drawer in it, an take out the right application ...

Yah - we know. The desktop is simply a projection of our mind. We don't need guis (I don't!). It's simply a means to an end and I want as little of it in the ay as possible, thanks. But other people don't have the concepts in their mind - they need something "real-life" to grasp hold of. They're mystified why you talk of opening and closing windows!

Peter
