When is a Linux Automatic Update Not AutomaticWhen you happen to be using Suse 10.1, that's when!
"This morning, my trusty little ZEN updater turned Orange, and clicking on it told me that there were 10 new updates available. First, I tried the default ALL selection, and received a page of dependency errors. Then, I tried eliminating some of the downloads, and finally just tried updating GIMP. Same type of problem each time. I have enabled in my updater sources CD:--?devices=-dev-hda This has never happened before with previous updates. Has anyone else encounterd this strangeness? Or have I overconfigured my sources?"
and::::::::: "I have had the same problem. My fix is to write down all the update programs in Zen, close it and open yast software management, search for each program, set it for update, then manage your dependency problem by ignoring them or whatever. I don't know why Zen doesn't give you the dependency dialog options. I noticed that in PCLinuxOS, dependencies are automatically corrected by updating the appropriate libraires. Imagine that? " Suse 10.1 has to be one of the worst releases from Suse-Novell ever! ov511 and terracam pro Hi, I followed the instructions on driver" until point 5. dmsg got: Linux video capture interface: v1.00 usbcore: registered new driver ov511 drivers-media-video-ov511.c: v1.64... machine rebooting without warning I am running KDE and gdm on Debian stable, and uname -a gives Linux darinaris 2.6.8-1-386 #1 Thu Nov 25 04:24:08 UTC 2004... Pray that they fix it in 10.2 and seeing 10.2 is coming out 12-7-06 they certainly have had enough time.
