Why I don't use Linux! 4294Charlie Gibbs Interestingly enough, my ISP does support Linux. They happen to run FreeBSD themselves. When I asked them about a minor configuration problem so I could log into their servers, they e-mailed back something to the effect: cdrecord "on the fly Black Sun and said: attempt to mount CD burned in this way This won't work right. You didn't do mkisofs, so the CD-R was burned as the raw data of... Another user freed from the evil empire of Windows... . Then when I was forced to install Windows XP on my old machine to run Quicken and TurboTax, I asked them if there was anything special I should do. They said to run it through the firewall (iptables) on my main machine and never let it connect to the Internet. The firewall should not allow any originations from outside; only replies to stuff I send out. And allow sending only to Microsoft (for updates) and Intuit and Quicken and TurboTax (for updates and electronic filing). Which I have done. They told me of a client of theirs who installed XP and on his first connection to the Internet to download all the Microsoft security fixes, his machine was hijacked before he could download the fixes. -- .~.
