Why I don't use LinuxWhy I don't use Linux! 4286 Tomas Bicsak You do realize that fitting a square peg into a round hole is... It all boils down to being a square peg in a round hole, which is what Linux really is. I bought a Dell system with a 21 inch flat panel display and all the toys. I installed a second hard disk just to try Linux and guess what? Virtually none of my hardware worked with Linux. Scanner? NO! Printer? Sort of worked but no advanced control panel and functions. USB Camera? Mounted as a USB device, so how do I manipulate images in the camera? ISP? I called them and as soon as I mentioned Linux they went on the offensive claiming no support, read the EULA etc... Wireless? Didn't work at all with Linux. Bluetooth? Didn't work at all with Linux... How about web pages that don't work with Linux? My day trading progam won't work. My credit union site won't work. My bank sort of works unless you try to transfer money, which does not work. My IRA account will not work. My lawyer and accountant send me updates to my financials 4 times a year in the form of DOC with embedded spreadsheet stuff (sorry but I don't know the particulars) and OpenOffice chokes on them. My wireless phone compnay does not support Firefox or Konqueror. Verizonwireless, for you Sherlock Holmes types. You can do most things but pay your bill online, where it dies at the LAST STEP... IOW it SEEMS to work up until the very last step where it dies. My DVD does not work correctly. It keeps identifying DVD disks as CDRW's. And I can go on for hours, but the truth is Linux really stinks. It's fairly obvious why Linux desktop market share is hovering around 1 percent because the truth is, most people by pre-loaded systems and wiping them to install Linux is nothing but asking for trouble. If that were not true, we would see more market share for an operating system that is given away for free. But we don't.... That says it all-.
