Why I left Linux for Windows. 2160On Friday 25 August 2006 18:54, George Peatty stood up and addressed the mbuttes incomp.os.linux.miscas follows...: Possibly, but this also doesn't do away with the fact that purchased retail packs of a GNU-Linux distribution - e.g. a Mandriva PowerPack - *do* come with all those codecs and plugins on the install disks, and then those plugins and codecs are all installed along with the system, and set up perfectly in the configuration files of the programs they're meant to support. In addition, when you buy a retail pack, you support the developers, and you gain a lot more for your money that if you were to buy a Windows license, without application software. And the argument that Windows came for free with the computer is bogus as well - don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Every computer sold with Windows pre-installed has the Windows license in the price of the computer, and even if you tell the salesguy that you don't want Windows, it'll still be included. Windows is never given away for free, unless it is a 6-month trial version of a beta or something. -- With kind regards, Why I left Linux for Windows. 2161 J On the contrary that is the biggest SINGLE problem that DOES need fixing, and it can only be addressed by lobbying application developers and vendors to port... *Aragorn* (registered GNU-Linux user #223157)
