On the contrary that is the biggest SINGLE problem that DOES need fixing, and it can only be addressed by lobbying application developers and vendors to port their applications TO Linux.
That is entirely your choice. But if half the bandwidth here defending Linux was devoted to lobbying the application guys to produce Linux ports, then things might be different.

I've got $500 waiting for someone who has a program as good as CorelDraw that runs native on Linux. Rhino CAD would be even better...My Coreldraw8 crashes with memory problems after about 2-3 hours. Upgrading would require money, and Win2000 or better...Vmware might work, but wouldn't stop it crashing I suspect..one site that I have to use to make money will ONLY work correctly on IE6..so I HAVE to run IE6..that WOULD work under VMware..
Microsoft has a stranglehold. Saying "Linux is better" doesn't change that. Mozilla needs to reverse engineer teh IE6 rendering engine somehow, and teh applicatins gut-ys bneed to feel that Linux is worthwhile enough to invest the time and effort into.
Meanwhile MAC OS X is a stable supported Unix based platform...my bet is that THAT will actually become the normal desktop instead.
