Why Linux is Better than Windows. **My Linux Experience** 2810

It's nice to see "Mr. Skrunk" has come around.

Had several discussions with IT folks (like me) about maintaining their offices full of Windows installations. They go like this:

Them: When a system gets corrupt, we just dump an image back on and they're up and running in 20 minutes.

Me: I do the same for my Windows clients. But wouldn't you rather NOT need to do that every couple of months?

Them: You're an idiot.

Me: Perhaps.

There hasn't been a "stable" version of Windows since 3.1. 98 and NT4 are still more stable than any of the XPs or 2ks. And by "stable" I mean that they actually keep running all day, every day without freezing up or running "There's not enough memory to launch the application" errors.

tab YOu know... I switched to linux because it didnt crash 10 times a day... I stay with linux cause I dont feel I need to spend...

Believe me when I say that nothing would please the IT folks I speak with regularly (or me) if there was even the *slightest* possibility of setting up a "stable" Winbox. We keep trying, but if it isn't forthcoming from MS, it won't be "fixed", unlike the Linux boxes we use for our secure appservers and such where if I need something "fixed" or tweaked, I can jump right into the source and make it so.

Windows systems are for those who can't afford Macs and who can't understand the value of a truly stable computer.
