Why are printers such a hbuttle 3040
This is a pain, I agree. I sometimes write driver code, and it is really annoying to find that a different model of hardware does not work with my existing code. Most listing printers can be driven using ASCII control codes. I've not encountered any difficulty with these. Hewlett Packard published the PCL programming language standard. I always buy hardware that adheres to these. I cetainly wouldn't buy a printer or any other hardware that does not have documented control methods, or open source drivers available. I've not tried one of these, but maybe someone else knows this product. My printing requirements are pretty straightforward.
