Where to put shell settings under Suse
On 01 Jun 2006, in the Usenet newsgroup comp.os.linux.misc, in article What runlevel? For runlevel 3 (text or command line mode), see the man page for your shell. You are...

That was where I quoted from in the stuff you removed from my post. It states that cdrecord-prodvd, which is the dvd writing part of cdrecord AFAIK, is free for educational and research and just recently for non-comercial activity. It requires a key to run, a key which will expire in Jan 2007, with unknown plans at present as to exactly what would happen thereafter. As far as I could see there was no source code available for cdrecord-prodvd available there.

Now it may be that cdrecord itself now does DVD writing. I certainly could not see that on the web page for cdrecord which talked about the prodvd version as the one that did dvd writing. If that is true, a rewrite of you r web page would seem to be in order. which is listed as the home page for cdrecord on the Freshmeat site.

This is also the place where one is taken to if one just goes to

Here is a quote from the page

"Cdrecord supports DVD-R and DVD-RW with all known DVD-writers on all DVD writing support is implemented in cdrecord since march 1998. Cdrecord writes DVD media similar to CD media. Here is the place from where you may download the cderecord-ProDVD binaries for most platforms. Send me a mail if your platform is missing."

I read that as saying that it is cdrecord-prodvd that records to DVD. Now if that is not the case, them may I suggest that it is you that is engaging in FUD on your own web page.

I do not mind you charging for your software. It is yours and you have put a lot of time and effort into it, and I certainly appreciate that. However, it would also be good if the situation were more transparent. cdrecord itself is, as I understand it, free, opensource software, useable by anyone. As I understand it, (the evidence is ambiguous) dvd writing is supported by cdrecord-prodvd, which is not opensource, and is not free for use by anyone. It is now free for "non-commercial" use, whatever that means. Am I wrong in any of these statements? If so, please set me right, and please change your web pages to reflect the actual state of affairs.
