insert CD, boot, qtparted, parbreastion, knx2hd, go for coffee, come back, log in. How *hard* is that??

Why is Suse 9.3 Linux so slow 2854
You are wrong. The retail SuSE Pro 9.3 comes with 2 DVD's and 5 CD's. Not everyone has a DVD drive; SuSE provides the CD's for folks who don't have DVD's (and for...

that's down to a: his hardware setup, and b: his configuration.

what in the hell has it being free (not necessarily as in beer, more along the lines of "free-dom*) got to do with anything?

benchmarks?

ok. I'm gonna puke now.

now I'm puking *and* laughing my arse off! Where did you getthat chunk of bovine residue from?

Virtualization , was: New Debian Linux DESTROYS SYSTEMS
Noah Roberts In the course of a year, I see a lot of different businesses. Most of them are heartily sick of the constant care and attention demanded by...

Sorry to hear that.

Try installing Linux with just the analogues of what you'd find in a base Windows install. Then install OpenOffice. Then try.

Ditto. Bear in mind that IE is fundamentally tied to MS-Windows in such a way that its dependencies are already resident in memory the second you're shown the desktop. Try Firefox on Windows, then Firefox on Linux, and give a fair comparison. Not this FUD bullpoo.

In perfect conditions:

32x=4.8MB-sec=135.41sec-650MB ISO 50x=7.5MB-sec=86.6sec-650MB ISO

Where's the rest of the time gone? OK, let's be generous and double the time to allow caching over a 100MBit network.

Where's the rest of the time gone?

OK, let's be generous and buttume that you're using a ATA33 bus.

max speed possible is 33-8=4.125MB-sec

so your burner, buttuming it's on a seperate channel from the source hard disk, burns at a maximum 28.16x, on either Nero or K3B.

For a 650MB ISO, that takes 153.88sec.

A tad under three minutes.

I call bullpoo on your numbers. Mine may be slightly off, too; I did them in my head and it's nearly 3am.

try configuring your graphics properly, and turn off mouse trails. Other than that, I guess that's a software bug.

I get better than that copying usb-usb over LAN. What's your setup?

yes, that's what's supposed to happen. Linux isn't Windows, it's not forgiving of stupidity or substandard media.

K3B under Knoppix-Debian requires that you configure a CDFS parbreastion-image before you can burn a DVD. Perhaps try this?

WHICH distribution?

That is not the intention. Linux is intended to give users a:choice in what their hardware and software does for them, and b:freedomto configure their system howtheywant it.

WEll, can't say as I'm sorry to hear that you choose to lock yourself in to a company that decides for you. BTW, creationism is dead. Long live evolution!

.-me takes a bow.

-- Cheers,

Jim

Sorry, no, this is not true anymore, since Office 2000. Youcanhave a "Microsoft Office" shortcut to OSA9.exe...

This is a battle of wits, and it is clear you are unarmed.
