Why newbies don't RTFM... 4754
Why newbies don't RTFM... 4756 Because that does what he wants .. tells him what commands may be likely to "delete directory". Because no sensible "answer" to "tell me about cd" exists. It's like... Good for you. So has everyone who's learned to use linux. The main reason is because, since the typical newb asking the question doesn't provide any information whatsoever, just "me want", the reader must make buttumptions. If the newb reveals he's searched the man pages and doesn't understand them and-or he's read the howto and it won't do and-or he has this error response or that log response, the reader has something to work with and is much more likely to help. But, this is usually not the case and the people wishing to help are confronted with the same gimme atbreastudes and questions over and over again. It becomes wearisome in the extreme and sometimes people just reach a limit and go off on these newbs. Take the hint. These help sites can only provide std procedures because they don't know every possible configuration, specially yours. They provide an outline, you fill in the blanks. The help is supposed to come from YOU. Sounded like criticism to me and some others. Why newbies don't RTFM... 4755 On Mon, 12 Sep 2005 13:47:10 +0000, AZ Nomad I'm trying to be compbuttionate here... This is the basis of the Wintel monopoly. More crap in the OS requires more hardware speed-power which allows more crap in the OS which requires more...yada yada yada. A nice little self perpetuating relationship at the consumer's expense. The whole point of linux is a step in the opposite direction. I'm using a 433Mhz celery running Slackware and I really have no need, at this time, to buy a "more powerful computer". Then, despite all your higher education, you still don't get it. I'll just leave you with this: in computing, less is more. nb
