Snip... Yes--my local provider went to Supernews from inhouse service a few months ago, largely IIRC to let somebody else worry with the spewbots and such. ISTR Seth Breidbart years ago arguing sooner...

Last few weeks, my killfile has gone into hyperdrive taking out trolls in COLM--15 of 27 posts this a.m. alone. Since I target mostly the notorious wintrolls (like Flatfish and sockpuppets-clones), and anything related to M$ in the headers, looks like a conspiracy of Doze Fanboys to me. :)

Interesting comment from the Yahoo SCOX board this a.m.:

The main gist of the "Something's Amiss" editorial is an observation of an increased number of anti-Linux posts on Linux sites. Posts that supposedly come from members of the community but which use identical words and phrases under different nicks in different forums.

I agree. I think I've seen the negatives that show up change from hysterical bashing by rabid Windows gamers whining about games in Linux to a new style. That new style purports to be a hotshot computer-hip guy who has 4-5 Windows boxes and 2-3 Linux boxes. He claims that Linux is OK for running a printer server but is woeful as a desktop. He drops names of distros he's tried and found to be oh-so lacking in "fit and finish" for his sophisticated tastes.

The "Something's Amiss" editorial is a warning that these trolls have adopted a new tactic and seem somewhat coordinated in an attempt to disrupt the feeling of collegiality among open source forums. I think he's right.

I think free speech threatens most fanboys, and their response is typical of bullies: you try to shout it down, or water it out in noise.

Also, I think somebody's losing their composure, and it's not Linux. :)
