WordPerfect for Linux 5259
Ok, gotta tell ya this one. I installed WP8 for Linux on my Slackware box & my wife had WP8 for Winblows 98 on her box. Both boxes were networked with Samba running on the Slack box. She was editing a form with WP8 when Win98 locked up solid, in spite of her machine having more memory than mine. She rebooted, recovered being a loyal pracbreastioner of "save often", made the same edit to the form, & it locked up again. Ok, I say, lemme see...I could still access her computer so I copied her document to mine, started WP8, opened the document, no problemo. Well, no problemo 'til I noticed my cpu idle time was 0%. WP8 was in some kind of loop, & while it locked her Win98 box up solid, Linux was still surprisingly responsive, just a wee bit sluggish. WordPerfect for Linux 5260 On Mon, 24 Oct 2005 14:17:22 +0000, Roger Blake Oh yeah! The registration code problem. I had forgotten about that... 2.4 kernel forcing swap usage, memory limit I'm using a 'VPS' (Virtual Private Server) to host some websites. I had them set it up with Debian 3.1. They would only allow a 2.4 kernel built by virtozzo. I've... She rebooted, recovered, & tried the form edit a different way & it worked. She still prefers to create forms with WP - she has WP9 on her current Win2k box, & will have WP12 on the box I'm building for her now. Yeah, she has to use Word for most things now, but still keeps WP around. Me? I still do most things using emacs. --
