Out of curiosity, why did you switch to a woody kernel, instead of grabbing a kernel off of kernel.org? It would likely have saved you a number of dependency issues.

That makes two people I've encountered, then. I wonder how many more use text manpages on non-space-constrained systems.

Thinking along the lines of users adding notes to manpages, what opinion do people have on single-user wiki-style editing of manpages? Individual manpages would actually be named pipes, and a central daemon could respond to read and write requests on a per-UID basis. (This would require the odd condition of manpages being writable to users who might use the system.

Revision tracking could be done with existing revision control systems such as CVS or Subversion. Each active user would have his own branch, and interactions with the RCS would be handled by the daemon, and the user would have a simple set of commands like "revert" "undo" and the slightly more sophisticated "goto" to go back to older versions of their docs.

Obviously, links and formatting would be an issue.

Too bad I don't have time to do more than speculate. But speculation can lead to a later follow-up. :)
