backup solution 4575
backup solution 4576 My suggestions would include: BRU is what I use myself. BakBone is a product I've just recently heard about, so I don't know much. Arkeia I evaluated before choosing BRU. Arkeia was... Well, the purpose is different. I imagine you want it as a final arbiter in case you grow doubtful about the authenticity of some backup files, for example. Or perhaps it contains files that have since been retired and are no longer to be found in weekly backups! (at least in that version of their lifeline). But for restoring the current state to that just before the last disaster (fsvo disaster)? I doubt it. A short term backup can easily be kerpt on disk. In fact, we run 24h backups precisely by keeping a mirror in 24h disphase. In case of failure, the fallover is to the mirror, in readonly mode - people can at least keep going with that; the worst is that they don't realise what has happened (server exploded) and start complaining that they can't write, instead of thanking for allowing them to continue working. If they change or remove a file, they have 24h to ask for it back, from the mirror. This requires careful timing. The mirror runs early morning so they get a full days work in which to realize they lost something. After that, it's a question of searching through longer term backups. Sigh. Peter
