I used to use one tape drive to backup two systems with what is now called the workstation product. I just mounted the files on the other Linux system with NFS, and the Windows system with Samba. Then BRU just looked at all the files and wrote them out. It was not clear to me that this might have been violating the terms of the license.

When I built my new machine, I put a VXA-2 in it, and left the VXA-1 in the other one (that is now dual boot). I seldom boot into Windows-XP, and when I do, I back it up using Windows backup (onto the VXA-1), but most of the time, I just backup the Linux system (which has a FAT32 parbreastion with the Quicken and TurboTax data, so that gets backed up twice).

I think it is simpler to have the backups for each machine separate (since I have only two). If I had 50 machines, I imagine I would have gotten BRU Server.

Some people seem to insist on a GUI to the backup system, but I think that would be a pain. BRU comes with one, but since I run it with cron, I need the CLI anyway.
