bootrepair floppy or CD 106No it isn't. What next? Would one need clbuttes in walking down the corridor? And wash the mouth out, while you're there, please. I really don't like seeing names being called. It checks the root= value to find it. But that's no help, since it can't read the parbreastion without the help of an operating system. All it can do is pbutt that value on to an operating systems. There are some boot loaders - grub is one, msdos is another - that boot a simple operating system that can read parbreastions as their next stage. That then reads more data and boots another o-s. And so on. That's called "bootstrapping". You could do the trick with lilo too, to boot the ultimate o-s in several stages, but you'd be using 3rd party components (such as freedos, loadlin) to fill in the upper stages. Grub has its own upper stages packaged away on the disk, and they can do the reading trick. I don't see a problem - you've simiply named the wrong parbreastion as root, or smething like that. dialup in linux On Fri, 13 Jan 2006, in the Usenet newsgroup comp.os.linux.misc, in article There are all kinds of... ?? It's simple.
That's nothing to do with boot - that's the init stuff. All init stuff. Hyucc. Peter booting linux using a floppy Hello Arvin, I think I recall that you said the grub loader... maybe you are using grub, not lilo? Unfortunately, I don't remember...
