You could easily have judged that the OP is trying to get into another stock Linux kernel, I guess, might be from Debian kernel sources (Hint: his initrd.img-2.6.8-3-386). We know well -- to error is, but human; so what if his-her kernel build tools are not update and, or buggy?

Nothing is perfect, not even the God in this world. People download hundreds of thousands of released software packages daily which contain bugs, though said to known as stable releases. Are you sure that all the standard Debian Linux kernels are always perfect?
