Advice for new system
a 750mHz Duron processor. This board has built-in AGP video but the only thing I can find out about the chip is that it's...

On Mon, 19 Dec 2005 21:20:17 +0100, Drazen Gemic staggered into the Black Sun and said:

OK, this doesn't work IME. Best idea I've found is to use the device name directly; dev=-dev-hdc . The -tsize option shouldn't be needed. And why the -nofix? That's really only useful if you're trying to create an audio CD in separate stages, I think.

IIRC, I couldn't get it to work properly with ATAPI: or ATA:, but the dev=-dev-hdc worked just fine. Then again, the fastest my older DVD+RW can write a CD-R is 16x, so I don't need DMA as much as some folks. I don't remember whether I have it turned on for my DVD+RW or not, actually.

OK. Try the device name directly. Ignore Joerg's "open by device name is not supported", it doesn't mean anything. The SCSI "host, bus, ID, LUN" scheme just doesn't map well to IDE, USB, or Firewire devices, and the sooner Joerg stops trying to force it down everyone's throat, the happier everyone'll be.

(No idea what the guy writing Spanish was saying. Je parle francais et americain, c'est tout.)
