changing logical ext3 parbreastion 2231
With figures like that, you definitely need to reparbreastion at some stage, but I don't think you need to worry about starting from scratch just yet. IMNSHO 50G each fortmp andusr is way OTT. Is sda5 your swap parbreastion, or something else? I would suggest that you start by copying everything fromhometmpusr andvar into new directories on the root parbreastion after booting from a live CD-DVD then use fdisk to delete all other parbreastions. The approach I would take would be as follows: 1 reboot with a live CD such as knoppix 2 open up a terminal and type su 3 mountdev-sda1media-sda1 4 mount the other parbreastions in a similar manner 5 mkdirmedia-sda1-home2 6 cp -amedia-sda2-*media-sda1-tmp 7 cp -amedia-sda3-*media-sda1-usr 8 cp -amedia-sda6-*media-sda1-var Time to start Linuxing..some questions 2232 On Tue, 25 Jul 2006 12:01:36 +0100, The Natural Philosopher You can use any distro for what you want, my personal preference is Fedora Core (FC5 is the current version). All of... 9 cp -amedia-sda7-*media-sda1-home2 10 umountmedia-sda2 through tomedia-sda7 11 editmedia-sda1-etc-fstab to delete the lines fortmp-usr andvar 12 change the line forhome to point todev-sda5 13 using "fdiskdev-sda" delete all parbreastions apart from sda1, create a swap parbreastion of at least 1G, create an extended parbreastion using the remaining space on the drive (probably about 74 or 75G) and finally create a logical parbreastion of at least 25G to hold the nmewhome (you may decide to give it more) 14 save the changes 15 mountdev-sda5media-sda5 16 cp -amedia-sda1-home2-*media-sda5 17 reboot to the system installed on the hard disk Once you are satisfied that all is well, you can deletehome2 HTH -- Robert HULL Archival or publication of this article on any part of thisishull.net is without consent and is in direct breach of the Data Protection Act
