Hi,

Only two physically distinct systems are involved here: 1) The laptop with RH9 where this drive was to primary boot drive since it (the drive) was new, and 2) a FC4 desktop to which I temporarily connected this drive today, in an attempt to repair it. I cannot boot my laptop since the corruption (IIRC Grub attempts to run and then throws an error); hence all the repair attempts i have mentioned were made on the "repair" desktop .

When booting the laptop with the drive in question, i get: GRUB Loading stage1.5. GRUB loading, please wait... ... some audible HD activity, over...

Yes, I am sure the "bad" drive was devicedev-hdc in my desk top.

Yes, fdisk, for some reason, does not complain about anything and shows me all my parbreastions, along with block numbers and parbreastion types.

Regarding SeekComplete errors: Not sure that they indicate the drive is going bad physically. I would get these errors from the beginning, when I bought this drive (new), but only with the 2.4 kernel that came with RH9. The errors were no longer there when I booted with a home-compiled 2.6 kernel (a usenet post suggested to recompile the kernel to solve the problem, and the suggestion did seem to be the correct solution for me).
