My Linux installation crashed this morning . . . not yet sure if's a CPU, power supply, or a hard disk failure. Basically it hung. When I rebooted the computer it seems to work, but hung again after 10 minutes of use. The next time I tried to reboot, it hangs on Linux load.

So I removed the hard drive from the computer case and place it into an USB enclosure. I connected it to my notebook running Ubuntu Linux. No drive showed up on the desktop. I don't know if a Linux drive would show up in the first place, but a Windows drive always works.

I place the drive into another desktop computer and try to boot it. It did not succeed and gave an error message (I can't provide this error message right now, I can later tonight). After giving me an error message, it dropped me to a parbreastion with the directory "root" on it. It seems to be a minimum install parbreastion, maybe the boot parbreastion. The shutdown command doesn't even exist.

large filesystem backup via autoloader
Hello, I have a SuSE 9.2 system with four large filesystems (two 1.4 Tb and two 2 Tb) that I want to back up to tape. I am considering buying...

I'm not sure what I can do to mount the main parbreastion, the one with all my data on it. If anyone would provide any pointers that I can try, I would be extremely grateful.

Chieh --
