hi!

thanks for the advice.

i downloaded and burned a cd with puppy and it worked fine except (of course) wlan (2200BG) and unfortunately it didn't find my laptops mouse-pad :-( it did found an external usb-mouse (of course?)

all bigger distros as kanotix, knoppix and suse10 which i have tried has always found all my hardware in this laptop (acer travelmate 8006LMi)

this puppy version is based on v. 2.4 :-(

it's really VERY fast and has a lot of nice programs. one thing is for sure: i won't use the mail-newsreader ! that's the worst i ever seen in any os and-or computer...

i had to look for the ethernet driver from a (huge) list, it wouldn't find it by itself. even if it told me what hardware i have!

the wlan-thing is annoying...is it so, that the intel pro wireless 2200BG driver is built in in a newer kernel (2.6...) and it cannot be put in in a older???

Is Windows becoming irrelevant 1207

now for the newsreader...i'd love to use the same as in kde, but can it be fit in into puppy? how universally interchangeable are linux programs for different kernels? this puppy has a 2.4.29 something...

puppy is the way to go IF some minor additions and changes can be made. (wireless and news-mail reader !)

it easily installed on my USB-stick and boots very fast from it. nice!

cheers, christine
