Pleased that it helped :-)

Please post about the mousepad on the Puppy forum in the hardware section, so someone can get it working.

It's hard to beat the germanic thoroughness of the hardware detection in Knoppix and its derivatives :-)

Sylpheed? Some love it, some hate it. I just use webmail.

Are you sure that it hadn't loaded the driver, but not yet activated the card? That's its normal (quirky) behaviour. It's only the first boot you have to do it.

It's my understanding that the constraint is because Intel has not provided a 2.4 driver.

The Puppy 2 alphas are pretty stable, try the latest one and see if the wireless works. I don't have a centrino to test for you :-(

If you have the disk space. Remastering the CD is as easy as falling off a log, too.

Most user apps don't care TOO much about kernel version, more about libraries.

Did you try ndiswrapper in Puppy for the wireless? There's a wizard in the setup menu.

Glad you had fun with Puppy. The forums are chock full of buttistance and generally quite active if you want detailed help.

There is a package manager in Puppy, look for "package manager" and "dotpup" in the menus. You can install anything with a couple of clicks if there is a package. I've seen someone request an obscure package on the forum and then seen someone else come back within a couple hours saying that they had uploaded the new-built package to the server.
