It turned out mplayer ignores .asoundrc so I had to tinker with and I did get some sound of Turtle Beach Roadie. It came out in bursts at about 10x normal speed and then shutting off: my current problem seems to be that the Radeon M300 driver for x11 is soooooo slow (best demonstrated by the opening sequences with panoramic camera shots in the opening of the March of the Penguins or anything similar) that the Pentium M2.0 laptop is too slow to play a dvd even in a window, let alone full screen and that's probably what messes up the audio :-((( I think there is an ati driver in mplayer but it does not show in -vo help. Gotta read some more readme files.

Right. With reiserfs there was no fscking out of the box. I like reasonable defaults :-)

Ok. I guess my paranoia in chosing desktop components paid off since I haver had a corrupted reiser parbreastion. Of course YMMV greatly with laptops as I'm slowly discovering with the Radeon molility M300 in Dell Precision M20. In mplayer case it's Radeon staticity M300.
