Sun and said: One more thing: Have you made sure that DMA is enabled on your DVD drive? I saw similar jerkiness when attempting to play a DVD with xine on my T42p. The problem vanished when I did "hdparm -d1dev-hdc". Good but still not quite good enough if the playback is jerky. Try checking the DMA thing. Also, if cpufreqd is running, you may want to put in a rule that keeps the CPU speed up if mplayer-xine is running. This is the first time you said anything about USB problems. It helps when troubleshooters have *complete information*, eh? USB roadie? This'll revolutionize touring for metal bands! Just plug Bob in and see if he's too hammered to schlep the gear to the truck.... The device obviously has problems with the kernel on this RHEL 3 machine. First thing to try is to get a vanilla tarball from kernel.org, configure it, make modules modulesinstall, and attempt to boot with it.
