Yeah, I plan to upgrade to Mandriva 2006.0 just as soon as I can on that machine. But, I want to prove out 2006.0 on my test box first.

Oh so nice to have this "in rough order"!

I have a spare NIC. I think it's a 3Com 10-100 unit, or maybe even just a 10Mb unit. It's quite old. But, it might help isolate the trouble.

I've done that on this box before w-o detecting anything bad. But, I'll give it a go again.

Last Summer I had trouble when I'd turn on the power. It would only turn on every other time. Back then someone suggested power supply trouble, and shortly after that the problem went away and never came back. I'll check all my connectors. I don't have a spare supply right now.

I could do that for testing. But, my kernel has some custom modules for a Radeon card, a Cisco VPN client, and multimedia. So, if it turns out to be kernel related, then I've got some work ahead of me.
