help I installed rpm4.0.6 and now nothing works! 7274"Couldetc-ld.so.cache have become corrupted? could you have placed some files in, saylib orusr-lib, which were not used by the dynamic linker, until ldconfig was run?" I guess this could have happened. I have not directly interfered with this file so if it has become corrupted it must have been as a result of the rpm install itself. I have not placed any files inlib orusr-lib either. "You probably need buttistance from people like John Reiser, who understand something about how the dynamic linker works. Few do." help I installed rpm4.0.6 and now nothing works! 7276 Enrique Thanks for your very considered response. Unfortunately the shell I was using is no longer available (I was using a vpn over... I have straced these things in the past and my (simple) understanding is that the DL will search for required libraries in the order defined by the "LDPATH" env variable. I guess I can start by checking the libraries required for "ls" using ldd (buttuming thats statically linked and therefore that it works). Once I have debugged "ls" I will hopefully see a pattern - i.e. newer version of some required libraries may have been installed as you suggest. BTW, the last line of the output was truncated by google - here it is: help I installed rpm4.0.6 and now nothing works! 7275 The trouble is that even bash is dynamically linked. If possible, try to locate (or even build yourself on some computer) a statically linked... ls:lib-ld-linux.so.2: version `GLIBCPRIVATE' not found (required bylib-i686-libc.so.6)" I will examineetc-ld.so.cache as you suggest. I wonder how I would tell if it has become corrupt? Perhaps I could (temporarily copy a version of this file from another RH6.3 system on our network. I know this would probably we dangerous - but when you get desperate! Mark
