This isn't a real problem, but why is "use another mouse" a requirement? Usually, in X, you define all your mice at once in one ServerLayout section, then you can use all your mice on any display. Also, remember that if you want to restrict input (mouse 0 only moves pointer on screen 0), you can't usedev-input-mice as the Device for obvious reasons.

You don't do this just in xorg.conf . You do this in xorg.conf and the Xservers file you're using. Find that Xservers file. Since I use kdm, mine's in $KDEDIR-share-config-kdm-Xservers . If mine's like this:

...X starts up on virtual console 7 using ServerLayout section BAR in color depth 24 bpp, and on vc 8 using ServerLayout FOO in 16 bpp. You have to get your ServerLayout sections correct though. Make a copy of your working xorg.conf file before you change it; that will minimize any problems you have getting a working X back.
