how to remove old package in Redhat 9.0

I have installed the server and started up successfully. mysql.sock file is written tovar-lib-mysqldirectory as well. Now I found that I also need to install mysql 4.10-1 client. However there is already mysql3 installed in the system. How can I remove the old version in Redhat?
