From what the OP wrote, I think he is getting the man pages, but that he wants a list of library functions (which sometimes, but not always, can be got by 'man 3 intro').

Another tool for accessing the man pages is 'apropos(1)', which is equivalent to 'man -k'. For example, on my Debian Sarge system:
