installation problems 4309installation problems 4312 somewhat delusional theory about how RH 6.2 got installed deleted Although RH 6.2 is installed on the machine, my theory of how I managed to do it... I'm still confused on a few points. Thanks. Since I'm not absolutely sure whether it is the CD or the drive (and there have been two drives used for this, with both of which installation has failed), I don't think I should rely on the CDs as my only source of information about the distribution. Also, I don't know whether these are RedHat CDs or not. I got the installation CDs from a friend who doesn't remember much about them anymore. On another PC, I mounted the first installation CD and had no trouble copying the file indexhtml-7.1-2.noarch.rpm to one of my directories. I compared it with another copy of the file that I downloaded from (I found the site by googling indexhtml-7.1-2.noarch.rpm) by running cksum on both of them and got the same value 2158991843. So, that file, at least is ok. The site I just mentioned only has about 240 rpms, whereas there are several hundred rpms on the CDs. installation problems 4310 Since my last posting in this thread, I've been studying the files anaconda and anaconda.real contained in hdstg1.img in... Question: where online can I find a comprehensive list of all the rpms on the RedHat 7.1 installation CDs, as well as all of the rpms themselves (and maybe their checksums, so that I don't have to download them all to find out what they are)? With that, I can look at the checksums of all the rpms on the CD and make sure that all of the files are ok. It seems like it is worth doing before I copy the CD and try to install with the copy. At least it will eliminate one more variable in case the install doesn't work. Alternatively, I'm willing to consider downloading the entire RH7.1 distribution over the modem line just to be sure of getting a correct copy, e.g. from True, it might take a month, but the ISP has already been paid and the PC does all the work and I get to read books and watch TV. installation problems 4311 I made some progress with that approach and discussed it in another thread, but basically I gave up on it when I realized that I would never be... Hmm..., the website seems to be discussing similar issues of revising installation CDs to meet my own needs... Meanwhile, I'm starting to read the documentation for the old version of python which seems to be in charge of the installation. -- Ignorantly, * Disclaimer: I am a guest and *not* a member of the MIT CSAIL.
