Allan Adler

Why are you upgrading from an old *unsupported* version to another that is in *legacy* support??? (Something to think about)

Newer versions of Linux distributions like Fedora Core 2 no long use the floppy emulation boot process for the CD, instead the ISOLINUX boot method is used. This can and does cause the problem with older BIOS's and-or CD-ROM drives like you have described. As far as the DOS booting is concerned, maybe you do not have the DOS drivers to support the CD-ROM installed(on the floppy or wherever).

If your system is old enough not to be supported with Red Hat Linux 9 then it most likely will not be supported by the Fedora Core series. Try a different distribution which is more friendly to older hardware;

I understand your frustration and dilemma, but part of the problem is not doing the proper research before starting the upgrade process. The Red hat Linux 7 CD has a bootable floppy installation disk image that you can create the floppy from and can be created on a differnet system, the directions on how to do this are in the directory location on the CD as the floppy boot image. You can also read the directions and create the installation floppy disk by visiting and reading;
