installing ApacheWow, those were some quick responses. a) The first thing I have done is add 2 lines to my apt-sources.list and used apt-get and I have already installed apache. Actually I followed the tip in the first response and commented out the 2 lines that were already there. I think the "sid" means unstable, doesn't it? deb ftp:--ftp.us.debian.org-debian sid main contrib non-free deb ftp:--non-us.debian.org-debian-non-US sid-non-US main contrib non-free It is working too- yippee. I think it might have taken more time for me to get it working in XP ;-) Linux Memory Process Management on x86 Hello I've posted this in comp.os.linux.development.system (with a different subject line) but I didn't get an answer. I don't know if no one was able to answer or I've I violated some rule of nettiquette... b) Using apt-get I also installed VLC media player- I am used to VLC from on XP. c) While I will mull the suggestion to switch to Ubuntu, which I hear highly spoken of, I had a question. I too feel uncomfortable logging on as admin (Windows-style). Wouldn't this expose me to inadvertent installation of viruses and suchlike? What need I do in this regard? Do I just create myself a regular account and then use "sudo" whenever I need to do admin type things? d)I will also follow up on the other tips to "hack" Linspire! Thanks guys!
