Bootloader problem...HELP
Hi all. I've got a problem with my sons machine. It has 2 harddrives, hda & hdb, and for a...

Mouse cursor disappearing-reappearing sounds like an X problem or a hardware problem. Ditto for freeze-hang. But if it happens in KDE and not GNOME, it points to KDE or something KDE's running.

I once saw KDE's "setting up hardware devices..." stage of its startup cause a kernel OOPS--KDE's startup script tried to open all the removable media devices, which caused "modprobe floppy", which caused an OOPS since I'd disabled the floppy controller in the BIOS and the BIOS had some sort of obscure bug. Re-enabling the floppy controller made everything happy. I found the problem by rebooting and checking throughvar-log, but you may not be so lucky.

Ctrl-Alt-Del brings up a "log out? (Y-N)" dialog in a default KDE install, and you can map that key combo to many other actions via KDE Control Center if you want.

These are all very good suggestions. But... if some X-KDE app has grabbed the keyboard and won't let it go, Ctrl-Alt-F1 may not work. ssh has a higher probability of working.
