laptop suspend 4514On Tue, 23 Aug 2005 16:54:05 GMT, CBFalconer So many greenhorn phules have stumbled onto usenet via Google -- thinking that it is some sort of Google-hosted, real-time chat room for various topics. They have no concept of how threads in groups on usenet are read, managed, and maintained. These sloppy-butted Google followups are are freakin' waste of time to wade through -- and damn irritating when you go to read new articles in a thread that interests you. This week, I started killfiling Google followups in certain ng's where this idiocy-to-signal ratio has gotten too high for me: % Just simply kill Google followups in 'certain' ng's alt.php,comp.lang.php,rec.photo.* Score: =-9999 I'll be adding more ng's to that list -- I'm sure. This doesn't kill the initial post of a new article coming out of Google (on the unlikely chance that it concerns material that I can actually answer for the OP. :-) Nor do I kill the followups to the followups I am killing. So, I suppose I'll still be reading these followup, etiquette rants from other folks. :- I'm also 'tagging' Google followups in all my other ng's to see if any other of the multi-dozen ng's I read deserve such treatment, too. So far, I'm seeing pretty decent Google followup etiquette in many of the more 'technically involved' ng's. ( Which I guess does not cover comp.os.linux.misc ) % Tag Google followups for "scrutiny" * Score: =-666 I've seen quite a few .sig's in the past few months where fellers claim they killfile all Google posts. Probably not what I want. laptop suspend 4515 Luca Pireddu Suspend on acpi and linux is non-trivial ... actually, it usually was no problem with the elder standard apm. Since most laptops still supports... Of course, Google bears most of the blame for this crappy conduct -- with their unilateral, un-vetted, protocol-broken usenet portal. But, I *really take issue* with the peey-butted atbreastude by the posters that they couldn't care less about more than 20 decades of well-polished protocol and they insist on doing it their way. (I wish Google would 'tag' the headers somehow with the manner in which a followup was generated. I've studied them - no joy.)
