Well, I have Flatfish, Alan Connor, and anything crossposted to .*advocacy set to score -9999. Happiness is a decent killfile. Message-ID for this message? There's a fair amount of traffic here, and stuff gets lost in the shuffle. This is not good. USB usually works better than parport. Try forcing the device with dev=-dev-scd0 or dev=-dev-sg0 and using -prcap instead of -scanbus. -scanbus doesn't always do the right thing, especially with IDE devices, where you must add "dev=ATA:" to the -scanbus if you want to get anything useful back. I'd test this if I had a CD-R* anywhere that wasn't IDE. All of those are *frontends* to cdrecord. If cdrecord isn't working, none of its frontends will work. Well, this is annoying. I don't know what could be causing this. micro solution backpack cdwriter hell 3901 On Wed, 15 Jun 2005 20:17:28 GMT, johnny bobby bee staggered into the Black Sun... Forget parport operation, then. Trying to debug a module that hardly anyone uses these days is not very productive. Keep trying with USB, and dig up the Message-ID for your original post on this problem, so other people can look at it. Nope. dev-sda is the first SCSI (or pseudo-SCSI) disk, whole disk. SCSI CD-R* devices aredev-scd0-9 ordev-sr0-9. SCSI tape devices aredev-st0-9, SCSI generic devices aredev-sg0-64. Nothing will be created indev unless Ubuntu uses devfs or udev, anddev-scsi-host0-bus0-target0-lun0-disk won't be created unless the devfs-udev config is set up to create those. There's got to be a way to get this working. I don't know exactly what it could be, though, since usually USB CD-R* devices just work. If you can plug the thing in via USB and mountdev-scd0, you should be able to cdrecord with dev=-dev-sg0 .
