I see - well using 'dd' to make a swap invar-tmp called 'swap' (no swap-sterany more - no more LABELing trials and tribulations for now)

so; I have this when using 'dd' to examine the contents of the 128MB file;

so it definitely exists -- and it *remains* present upon reboot, but is *not* activated until I; ~# swaponvar-tmp-swap

I see - nteetc-fstab changes -- I also saw reference in 'man mkswap' to placing a 'swapon -av' entry inside one of theetc-rc? scripts....there are s-o-o-o many rc? scripts there, such as the DIRs cryptic named scripts within each - I'm lost with that

Yes - no more LABEL ;-) - once I re-read the man pages, it seems it's ONLY available for Volumes-parbreastions (I guess with LiLo, labeling is more prevelant, or so I thought I had read on the usenet).
