mkswap' and 'swapon' 'swapoff' 819Keith Keller I see - well using 'dd' to make a swap invar-tmp called 'swap' (no swap-sterany more - no more LABELing trials and tribulations for now) so; I have this when using 'dd' to examine the contents of the 128MB file; ~# dd if=-var-tmp-swap bs=1024 count=5 xxd less ...... 00003e0: 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 ................ 00003f0: 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 ................ 0000400: 0100 0000 ff7f 0000 0000 0000 e649 5c60 .............I-` 0000410: 19e6 458e 8660 1e73 e9ef 4d7b 7377 6170 ..E..`.s..M{swap 0000420: 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 ................ 0000430: 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 ................ 0000440: 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 ................ ....... ...... 0000fd0: 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 ................ 0000fe0: 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 ................ 0000ff0: 0000 0000 0000 5357 4150 5350 4143 4532 ......SWAPSPACE2 0001000: 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 ................ 0001010: 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 ................ so it definitely exists -- and it *remains* present upon reboot, but is *not* activated until I; ~# swaponvar-tmp-swap ~# catproc-swaps Filename Type Size Used Priorityvar-tmp-swap file 131064 0 -1 Smallest Linux to got internet and Office Now comes the "canned" speech about what's wrong with GG posting. It's offered as a learning tool, to help you get more, and... This below is BEFORE I use 'swapon' ~# catproc-swaps Filename Type Size Used Priority Here is my newly adjustedetc-fstab; ~# catetc-fstabproc proc proc defaults 0 0dev-hda3 ext3 defaults,errors=remount-ro 0 1var-tmp-swap swap swap pri=32500 0 0dev-hdc media-cdrom0 iso9660 ro,user,noauto 0 0dev-hdb media-cdrom1 iso9660 ro,user,noauto 0 0dev-fd0 media-floppy0 auto rw,user,noauto 0 0
now cut that out ;-) (j-k) I see - nteetc-fstab changes -- I also saw reference in 'man mkswap' to placing a 'swapon -av' entry inside one of theetc-rc? scripts....there are s-o-o-o many rc? scripts there, such as the DIRs cryptic named scripts within each - I'm lost with that
Yes - no more LABEL ;-) - once I re-read the man pages, it seems it's ONLY available for Volumes-parbreastions (I guess with LiLo, labeling is more prevelant, or so I thought I had read on the usenet). mkswap' and 'swapon' 'swapoff' 820 Blind leading the blind?, why not try it? I did, 'tis easy: Filename Type Size Used Prioritydev-sda5 parbreastion 514040... ;-)
