mkswap' and 'swapon' 'swapoff' 822Keith Keller done... I'll have to play with that more I guess. My distro is Debian Sarge; ~$ uname -a Linux localhost 2.4.27-2-386 #1 Wed Aug 17 09:33:35 UTC 2005 i686 GNU-Linux I have already now created a swapfile according to your suggestions; I see it there, intmp astmp-swap -- and this time I only made it 128MB. I did it using 'sudo su' from a Konsole in KDE # dd if=-dev-zero of=-tmp-swap bs=1024 count=131072 then # mkswap -c -v1 -L swapstertmp-swap then finally # swapontmp-swap however, I notice my Browser is very kludgy now (even moreso), yet the KDE daemon? (Info Center Memory) shows the 128MB swap - yet even with less than 3MB *physical* mem, it's still not using the swap. I reread 'man swapon' and it seems a LABEL should only pertain to *parbreastions* ...whoops again ;-) How can I resolve these issues ? -- or are there none for me to worry about -- but how can I tell if the swapfile is actually being used...as of now, it *seems* it is not. thanks -- makes perfect sense How to make a network between two houses about 1000Feet far away 825 Douglas Mayne Not sure about off the shelf DSL modems..one needs to be a master I... thanks - I hear ya Smallest Linux to got internet and Office Now comes the "canned" speech about what's wrong with GG posting. Read... thanks - I already know this -- but great for others (lurking perhaps) to know...I wanted to be sure that I didn't bork anything again from Low RAM amount, and realize it's always better to be in VT-VC or runlevel1 or 2 as root....especially for this worry. you bet ;-)
