I'm sorry myself..... I forgot to use the country switch earlier try doing this first

modprobe snd-intel8x0m slmodemd --alsa --country=ITALY

If that does not work remove the smartlink drives as suppiled from the Mandriva CD's and download-build the drivers yourself from smartlink;

You will need the kernel source for your running kernel (uname -r) installed for this to work.

Expand the downloaded tar file review the README file starting at the 'ALSA mode' section. A quick (down and dirty) guide from where the downloaded tar file resides;

$ gzip -dc slmodem-2.9.10.tar.gz tar xf - $ cd slmodem-2.9.10-modem $ make SUPPORTALSA=1

Copy the new slmodemd file (as root) to theusr-sbin location;

$ su # cp slmodemdusr-bin-slmodemd

then still as root try;
