Hi everybody.

I have just installed Debian-Sarge. I have to say that it was overall easy. The only problem is that my computer has no sound. It looks like Sarge did not detect my soundcard. Here is what Knoppix 3.9 found at boot:

Soundcard: 5880 AudioPCI driver es=1371

I did an lsmod to see what modules were loaded, and I got the following list:

Module Size Used by sndmixeross 18688 0 snd 46308 1 sndmixeross autofs4 18820 1 afpacket 20104 0 reiserfs 232304 0 ntfs 163728 0 agpgart 30512 0 es1371 35520 1 soundcore 11104 3 snd,es1371 gameport 7552 1 es1371 ac97codec 20108 1 es1371 tulip 50464 0 i2cpiix4 11408 0 i2ccore 21248 1 i2cpiix4 parportpc 38596 0 parport 33480 1 parportpc 8250 4168 plus 12 0 serialcore 21120 1 8250 usbhid 42176 0 pcmcia 21776 0 yentasocket 21896 0 rsrcnonstatic 12160 1 yentasocket pcmciacore 42272 3 pcmcia,yentasocket,rsrcnonstatic video 18308 0 thermal 14984 0 processor 24552 1 thermal fan 7300 0 container 7296 0 button 7168 0 battery 12420 0 ac 7556 0 genrtc 12060 0 unionfs 109944 1 cloop 18848 1 sbp2 24456 0 ohci1394 33028 0 ieee1394 300600 2 sbp2,ohci1394 usbstorage 63296 0 ub 18332 0 ohcihcd 21896 0 uhcihcd 31376 0 ehcihcd 31752 0 usbcore 101496 7 usbhid,usbstorage,ub,ohcihcd,uhcihcd,ehcihcd

What shall I do now? Simply insmod all the modules which look sound-related and which Sarge did not already load, or is there a way for me to identify which module(s) are needed to get my soundcard to work?

where is the Wine system directory
I am trying to install Kazaa Lite into my Linux. I am using Fedora Core. The instructions below ask me to copy some files from the Win95-98 machine into...

Also - if I insmod the correct modules - will they still be there after a shutdown-reboot or do I need to modify some other file?

Lastly - is there a tool which comes with Debian-Sarge which would allow me to configure my soundcard? Somebody reccommended sndconfig to me, but I checked (with synaptic) and it is not included in the 15000+ apps which come on the 14 Debian-Sarge CDs. Surely there is some good tool lurking among all these apps?

Many thanks for your help & pointers,

VS
