On Friday 28 July 2006 20:10, Dances With Crows stood up and spoke the following words to the mbuttes incomp.os.linux.misc...:

That other poster would be me. ;-) And indeed, it is as was explained earlier by John-Paul Stewart elsewhere in this thread, i.e. without thepromptentry, LILO will only display a menu when you press the leftShiftkey.

Other than that, theTabkey also works to bring up a horizontal list of possible kernel images or third party OS entries - named by their aliases if applicable - to boot from, and pressing theEnterkey at the boot prompt will boot the default choice.

It is also possible to set a 640*480 pixel background image (in bitmap format) to the LILO menu. Themanandinfopages will give more clear instructions on that.

I myself have not been able to fully analyze where the graphical background screen in my own LILO set-up comes from. As you could see from what I pasted and what I wrote in the other follow-up, Mandrake chose to set it up using a file *-boot-message,* which appears to contain only binary data in an unspecified form.

So I'm trying to install eboard from source on Fedora Core 5. And in this case, as...

Odd, because MandrakeSoft - now Mandriva - was not exactly a distributor who proprietarized things... :-
