They observed pure-field scattering no matter how fast the electrons were moving. If electrons had structure or dimensions, you'd see different results from that experiment if the electrons were moving fast enough. The electrons would display less predictable behavior as they went faster if they were actually colliding with each other. But they don't. So physicists currently think that electrons can be approximated as point particles, or spheres of radius roughly 2.8*10^-13 cm, whichever makes the most sense for the problem under consideration.

Also, applying Buddhist thought to physics is like applying a voltmeter to a pig. You can *do* it, but it won't tell you anything useful, and you'll annoy the pig.
