Most Windows users have Administrator rights... Dave Uhring This machine is a dual P-III 933. The stack contains a single 933 (Win98), a 750 Duron (Debian workstation), three old dual 333s (Debian Apache, NFS-Samba and backup servers), an IBM Netfinity with dual 1gHz P-IIIs (Win 2k3 server), an old Compaq dual 200mHz Pentium Pro (currently Win 2K3 but I may reload it with Minix), and a homebuilt dual 1gHz P-III that I'm probably going to load with Debian to run the Hercules S-390 emulator and IBM's mainframe VM-370 and probably MVS. I might try running Debian for zSeries, just for fun. The major reason that I'm runing Win2k is to support Word Perfect, which I've used since the DOS days and I like for writing. Yes, I've tried Open Office and most other word processors (free and non) and none of them do as well as WP *for my uses.* I have the first draft of the first two books (200k words) of what's likely to turn into a trilogy or quadrology. No, it isn't published; yes, I'm going to try to get it published; yes, I've been told that I have a reasonable chance; yes, you can read it if you won't give it to somebody else and you keep in mind that this is a first draft. *For my uses* Linux is nowhere ready for the desktop. I'm continually being pleased at how well the Linux servers run. I have this heterogenous collection of operating systems for learning purposes -- to expand my skillset to make myself more employable. My favorite system is a zSeries and my favorite OS is zVM. -- -- Marten Kemp (Fix name and ISP to reply) -=-=- ... Trouble is, there's ingredients. And then there's process. Many powder mills experienced precipitate disbuttembly figuring out the process. -- Paul F Austin on rec.arts.sf.written
