possible HD errors, filecheck fails, what now 914possible HD errors, filecheck fails, what now 915 Aragorn .. Ah, sorry. I jumped the gun. Yeah, it did the file check attempt at boot up before... Kevin the Drummer I discovered that I AM running "smart". Cool. =) I guess. LOL Now I'll have to read all about smartd and see what I can learn about having it send me info and what it monitors, etc. Well, I'm running snort and portsentry... but I doubt those do any kind of HD data checking. I think they just monitor NIC traffic. I have a completely separate IP-Cop box between the switch and the Internet, so I haven't done too much IDS on the machines themselves. =( I'll need to look into tripwire. I'll man tripwire right after I send this. I'm afraid that whatever I learn may not help me with present and past issues, just going forward.
Yeah, that good ole "One day." I have a cpl year's worth of "One day" projects. =) I used to work at a Worldcom calling center, and we'd have to do daily backup tape caddy replacements daily on the VMST servers. About three racks of 5 DLT tapes. Not to mention smaller servers using DAT tapes, changed daily. Stored for up to 8 years... we had a walk-in fire safe they went into. Fun fun. Thanks for the reply!!
