pppconfigalike in FedoraC program for getting IP address of standlone box with no sockets 7162 What do you mean by a "standalone box"? If it has no network connections, then its only IP...
Fedora writes a simple config file for each interface, eg.etc-sysconfig-networking-devices-ifcfg-ppp0 with contents: # Please readusr-share-doc-initscripts-*-sysconfig.txt # for the documentation of these parameters. IPV6INIT=no USERCTL=yes PEERDNS=yes TYPE=xDSL DEVICE=ppp0 BOOTPROTO=dialup PIDFILE=-var-run-pppoe-adsl.pid FIREWALL=NONE PING=. PPPOETIMEOUT=80 LCPFAILURE=3 LCPINTERVAL=20 CLAMPMSS=1412 CONNECTPOLL=6 CONNECTTIMEOUT=60 PERSIST=no SYNCHRONOUS=no DEFROUTE=yes USER='ehem-censored' ETH=eth0 PROVIDER=Nextra DEMAND=no ONBOOT=no (The file has three links with the same name in different directories,etc-sysconfig-network{ing-{devices,profiles-default},-scripts} ) This file is used byetc-rc.d-init.d-newtork during boot - except that in the case shown, "ONBOOT=no", so it is skipped. I have the impression that the entireetc-sysconfig directory is more or less a redhat invention, and that other distros do the configuration differently. XMMS & Scripts personally ... i would install the xmms or beep-media-players infopipe plugin. This plugin touches a file calledtmp-xmms-info$user and creates an additional symlink... While no doubt more or less anything can be made to run on Fedora in a self-contained way, I don't know how much it would take to integrate it well with other infrastructure. Since I don't know anything about Debian configuration, I just mention this as a pointer in case you want to look into integration issues. -Enrique
