push" a command FROM linux TO windowstmp files dumping 697 On Friday 24 March 2006 17:25, CWO4 Dave Mann stood up and spoke the following words to the mbuttes incomp.os.linux.misc...: This would be the private *~-tmp* of the root user - as others have told you... I'm running a linux server and i'm looking for a way to start my backup jobs on the windows clients (but initiated by the linux server), i.e.: it's friday 6 p.m., every client is running and the linux server should do the following: tell client 1 to start it's backup after that tell client 1 to shut down (i think this could be arranged by the taskplaner (x minutes idle time, then run ...) tell the next client to start and so on... currently i'm trying with a dummy file, this looks like this: - every batch is started on friday 6 pm via Taskplaner - client A connects to server and checks if "dummy1" is present (with a loop and x minutes waiting time) - client A starts it's backup (if dummy1 is present), afterwards client A deletes dummy1 and creates a dummy(n+1) - after x minutes idel time, client A shuts down - at the same time clients B, C, D ... waiting in their loop for dummy2 (client B), dummy3 (client C) etc. to be present and so on... Problem is: If one client is down, all the following clients fail to do their backup... Can I manage to start my batch file in some way that is initiated by the server? Or is there any other way to do my backup other than via "windows network sharing" ? Thanks for advice Martin
