rar files

I downloaded a file with .rar extension using lynx:

and discovered that my RedHat 7 Linux system didn't have any way to read it. I eventually found and downloaded rar-2.80 and installed it. When I ran it on the file medium.rar, I got error messages for what seemed to be over 50 jpg files comprising medium.rar, such as:

RAR 2.80 beta 3 Copyright (c) 1993-2001 Eugene Roshal 10 Jan 2001 Shareware version Type RAR -? for help

Extracting from medium.rar

medium - the file header is corrupt medium-001.jpg - the file header is corrupt Unknown method in medium-001.jpg medium-002.jpg - the file header is corrupt Unknown method in medium-002.jpg medium-003.jpg - the file header is corrupt

I've never dealt with .rar files before. I don't know whether it was corrupted when I downloaded it with lynx or whether the error messages indicate some incompatibility with the system or software that produced the rar files.
