How to write udev rules for ttyUSBn devices
I've got several devices that end up asdev-ttyUSB entries. Since I'd like them to have consistent names no matter the order they're plugged in, I'm trying to...

I'm using Fedora Core 5, and I'm trying to install Zend Studio. I keep getting errors. (Included at the bottom, though not sure it matters here.) The best advice I could find for this problem is to re-compile the glibc library. Of course I started with "yum update glibc" just to make sure, but it was already up to date.

I got the GNU 2.4. But this sounds really dangerous to do. Anyway, I followed the INSTALL instructions, and started with .-configure. It ran fine, but suggested I use the --prefix arg to make it something other than the defaultusr-local.

The GNU FAQ suggestsusr-local-glibc2. I guess the current library is inusr-local-include.

Figuring it won't hurt anything just to configure and make check, with "configure --prefix=-usr-local-glibc2" that ran fine. But the make ended with this: ... In file included fromsrc-gnu-glibc-build-string-endian.h:37, from include-endian.h:1, fromsrc-gnu-glibc-build-posix-sys-types.h:217, from include-sys-types.h:1, from misc-sys-uio.h:24,src-gnu-glibc-build-bits-endian.h:13:2: error: #error Machine byte order unknown. make1: *** -src-gnu-glibc-build-bits-stdiolim.st Error 1 make1: Leaving directory `-home-liam-Downloads-glibc-2.4' make: *** all Error 2

I guess my questions are: a) Is this really a good idea? Should I continue to pursue this path or is this just leading to trouble? b) If it's an OK idea, what's this error mean, and what suggestions are there to get past it? c) Is there some other way anyone knows to get Zend Studio working making this all moot?

Thanks for any suggestions! -Liam

There will always be wierd hardware combinations that are going to be the exception to the rule and cause some catastrophic install failures. They are...
